Safe Work Plan: Tips, Procedure and Steps
A safe Work Plan is a procedure for executing tasks that considers the risks and hazards that may arise and defines the control measures to mitigate hazards. The plan is inform of a template that the risk assessment personnel should complete.
Components of Safe Work Plan
1. Job description
Each job has its own unique safe work plan. The job for which the plan is being designed is described here. The description includes; job title, department, number of employees, and the job location.
2. Scope of work
The scope defines the work and the deliverables. Also, scope entails an agreement between the employer and the employee on the task to be completed.
3. Potential hazards
Every work has its potential hazards. The hazards that are thought to appear while on duty are highlighted under potential hazards. It is easier for an employee to work with the knowledge of misfortunes that may happen.
4. Safety measures
All hazards have corresponding safety measures that are addressed under safety measures. The employee becomes aware of the actions to take in case of injury, near miss, or accident. The plan also details the available safety tools and locations, such as fire extinguishers, water points, emergency doors, first aid kit, and emergency contacts.
5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs)
It is a requirement for the employer to provide personal protective equipment to the employee. The plan shows the PPEs for the described job, which must be provided at the time of agreement. The PPEs include; gloves, gumboots, sunglasses, safety belts, masks, intricate huts, and dust coats.
Starting a job without proper education is the second risk after failing to wear protective attires. The employer must initiate training sessions, mentorship programs, and apprenticeship programs for new hires after installing a new machine. After training, the employees must be provided with certification to prove their competency.
Jobs that require multiple talents need to be addressed, and the respective departments are highlighted. Project managers, supervisors, and casual workers' duties are noted under each rank.
8. Evaluation procedures
Misfortunes are real, and employees need to know who will be responsible in the event of injury, near miss, or accident. Sometimes employees can undergo severe accidents that lead to a comma or make them anxious. The plan defines the person responsible for inspecting the workplace and employees.
9. Steps to follow
The plan acts as a manual of the job to be done. The steps are written one by one from start to the end. It also entails do's and don'ts, instructions, and requirements that the employee will be needed to put into the job.
